In the climates where the plant grows bamboo is in plentiful supply, is easy to grow and is very easy to harvest. No harsh chemicals are needed to get it to a stage that it can be worked and it can be harvested with relatively little damage to the surrounding area. So could bamboo be the answer to our eco friendly fabric problem? One thing that bamboo is very good at is absorbing moisture, the Chinese have used bamboo cloths for many hundreds of years but it is only recently that Western society has picked up on this product. Because of it's super absorbent features bamboo fibre is now widely used in the production of eco friendly cleaning cloths and drying cloths, but recently another use for bamboo fibre has been utilized. It is possible to get fibres for producing fabric from many other soft woods but bamboo so far seems to be the easiest one to harvest and work with.
